UN SDGs

Our Commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

We believe business can, and should, do more than exist to maximize profit. Businesses should also serve humanity and protect the planet for future generations. That’s why we align our business practices with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — a global blueprint for a better, more equitable world by 2030.

We're a small, independent roaster based in Deep River, Ontario — but we believe even small businesses can have a meaningful impact. Here’s how we’re contributing to the SDGs through our daily operations, sourcing practices, and long-term vision.

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

We source our coffee from smallholder cooperatives and transparent importers who prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and long-term relationships with producers. Whenever possible, we support farmer-led organizations and cooperatives that promote economic empowerment.

What we’re doing:

  • Prioritizing direct and ethical sourcing relationships.
  • Supporting partners who go beyond minimum fair trade pricing.
  • Exploring cooperative ownership models within our business.

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Sustainability isn’t just a label — it’s a design principle. We roast in small batches to reduce waste, use minimal and recyclable packaging, and make sourcing decisions with environmental impact in mind.

What we’re doing:

  • Using recyclable or compostable packaging materials.
  • Offering local bag return and refill options.
  • Sharing transparently how and where our coffee is sourced.

SDG 13: Climate Action

The climate crisis is real, and coffee — like people — depends on a stable climate. We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint and supporting climate resilience in coffee-growing communities.

What we’re doing:

  • Roasting on an energy-efficient electric drum roaster.
  • Minimizing emissions through small-batch, demand-based roasting.
  • Offsetting emissions and exploring regenerative agriculture partnerships.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

We can’t build a better world alone. We’re proud to partner with organizations, farmers, cafés, and customers who share our vision for a just and sustainable future.

What we’re doing:

  • Collaborating with other small ethical businesses.
  • Participating in local and global movements for sustainability and equity.
  • Supporting grassroots action and education around coffee, climate, and social justice.

It’s a Journey, Not a Checkbox

We know sustainability is complex — and we’re not perfect. But we are committed to learning, improving, and being transparent every step of the way. If you have ideas, questions, or want to collaborate, we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s roast a better future. Together.
